COURSE DESCRIPTION
Horticulture is a science-based program that incorporates study and hands-on experience in nursery, greenhouse, landscape, and floral design. Horticulture facilities include a large greenhouse, laboratory work area, nursery, lath house, vegetable garden, fruit trees, raised beds, and perennial garden. Horticulture also offers experience in concrete work and agriculture construction.
Students successfully completing two years of Horticulture should have the entry-level skills necessary to work at garden centers, nurseries, floral shops, greenhouses, landscaping nurseries, and landscape maintenance jobs.
Students with a B or better average may gain up to three hours credit in an agricultural related degree at Arkansas State University - Arkansas State Technical Institute in Beebe. They can also earn up to thirteen hours of concurrent credit at Arkansas State University-Newport.
