COURSE DESCRIPTION

Machine Tool Technology is designed to develop and expand basic machine tool knowledge, abilities, and skills. Students in this program need a solid mathematics background. Equipment used in Machine Tool Technology includes engine lathes, vertical milling machines, surface and tool/cutter grinders, a computerized numerical control lathe, and a computerized numerical control milling machine. In addition, the Machine Tool Technology classroom is equipped with computers furnished with software for teaching computerized numerical control programming and CAD-CAM drawings.

Each student is encouraged to excel in classroom and laboratory learning activities. Students successfully completing Machine Tool Technology will enter the machining industry and machine shop job market with skills and experience.

Students successfully completing two years with a B or better average can earn up to six hours credit at Arkansas State University Technical Center in Marked Tree. These students can also earn three hours of credit toward a B.S.E. in Technology in Industrial Engineering degree at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.  They can earn up to thirty nine hours of concurrent credit at Arkansas State University-Newport.

*Students who are in the 10th grade and over the age of 16.
